One of the first things that people notice when meeting someone new is their teeth. Seven out of ten people that live in the United States of America agree that if they could change on aspect of their appearance it would be a better smile. A big reason for this is that your smile can send off the right signal about you as well as give you a boost in confidence, if it is a good smile that is. With all the new and emerging technologies available to dentists it has made it easier than ever to get that smile that you want. The problem with this is that this means you have bad teeth. If you want to keep your dental costs down and your teeth remaining healthy there are things you can do to prevent tooth rot and decay.
One of the most damaging thing you can do to your teeth is to eat hard foods and candies. This constant chomping will weaken your teeth. The thing that makes your teeth so resilient is enamel. Enamel is the hardest substance found in the human body. It is made out of several minerals and makes and extremely hard coating on the outside of your teeth. Think of this as the outer walls of a fortress, although hard it is not indestructible. Eating a high sugar diet will decay your teeth, like constant drilling on the fortress wall. If you love chewing ice, sorry to say, this also damages the protective layer on your teeth. Chewing hard foods is like launching a full-on cannon assault at the walls of your mouth fortress.
Think of your pearly whites and your wallet when you are thinking what your diet should consist of. Make sure and ask your dentist what you can do to strengthen the enamel that you have already.
