A teapot, a tea cozy and a box of quality tea would make a great housewarming gift. They would also suffice as Xmas gifts or an unusual gift when you are looking for Birthday ideas. The teapot should be purchased first and a cozy to compliment the style and color of the teapot can then be chosen.
If you are a skilled knitter you could knit a woolen cover (tea cozy) for the teapot. Care must be taken when washing a tea cozy because of the possibility of it shrinking. It is best if you hand wash them and not use the washing machine but certain wools do stand up well to being machine washed. The teapot and the tea cozy are easy gift items to buy as they are tactile but the choice of tea blend to purchase is more complicated.
Tea choice
Tea is made from tea leave plants prepared and cured by different means thus giving a number of varieties of tea. White, black and green teas are the most common ones available but there are others, which include herbal and medicinal teas (Pu-erh tea).
How tea grows
Tea plants require a lot of rainfall. Chinese tea can be grown at high altitudes but the growth is slowed and it is believed that the best tea is produced this way. The tea plant will grow large but usually it is kept pruned to waist height to make the picking easier. Tea can be picked from the mature plant several times (usually once per week) as only the tips of the plant are harvested each time. The size of the leaf size governs the main tea classification with the largest leafed tree associated with Indian tea and the smallest leaf size associated with Chinese tea plants. There are many leaf sizes and varieties in between these two.
